The Joy of Elephant

We worked hard for the last 4 days, and we had fun prototyping. Everything went well this week, but the only wish I have is to have a bigger space.

Hashing out IxD

Aska and I had been figuring out how to make sense of the IX Task Flow. It is chaotic! Some kind of logic is emerging, but we are not there yet. We tried hashed out components, functions, and relationship within the system today, but more time is needed to properly figure it out.  The goal is to make it so simple that the Task Flow can speak for itself.

“Spandexization” of the Elephant

This was a true accomplishment for sure, figuring out how to cover the curve of the elephant. But we did accomplish it, to a degree. Desmond had to drag me out of Dressew, the fabric store (onesie material everywhere!), where we tried to pick out colors on-brand with our visual criteria.

Prototyping: Greeting Card Dissection

Desmond and I have been working on a series of prototypes for sound, ranging from non-functional look-like ideations to semi-functional greeting card prototype simulations. Our initial efforts looked at others’ associations with buttons – this lead to a new breakthrough; a literal button. In order to create an acts-like prototype, we began dissecting audio-track greeting cards and had a prototyping competition (for dignity, judged by time of completion) to create a function where, opposite to the greeting card mechanism, the button would require a “push” command, rather than a “pull” command. We both produced our own methods, though I am convinced that I, with the lesser knowledge in the realm of gadgetry, am the more victorious candidate. It’s all a matter of opinion, I suppose.

user quirk flow

Me and Rachel got together on the last day before reading break and we came up with the user work flow for the website. We are glad we had a very productive meeting. In a matter of a little bit over and hour, we have it all figured out! So what’s next? It’s time give the site a quirky look!

Yes, we quirk!

As indicated previously our new branding direction went pretty funky. Whimsical, quirky, unique; arise with the underdog! There is a lot of excitement concerning this spectrum of the elephant, seeing as it seems that we have found a good balance, an enjoyable way-in and a resolved direction. The process also involved sketching and ideation; fun. Our second client meeting was an encouraging success; we crunched in three entire concepts, and two were right on the money, conceptually speaking. Now to relay that information into a solid form. -Aska
